Acupuncture for Cancer Support

Woman with Cancer

Cancer is a scary word. Unfortunately, it is getting more and more common. According to the American Cancer Society, we have a 1 in 2 chance of getting a cancer diagnosis at some point in our lives.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that Western medicine is getting better at finding it early and treating it!

However, there are usually side effects of cancer treatments. This is where acupuncture proves very helpful. It is well-documented how acupuncture can help alleviate many of the side effects of cancer treatment.

Acupuncture can help with the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation (nausea, vomiting, fatigue, anemia, constipation, diarrhea, appetite loss, thirst, insomnia, “chemo brain,” neuropathy, and more). But then it can also help with the emotional impacts of having such a grave diagnosis.

And as a cancer survivor myself, I’m aware of the physical and psychological impact of having a cancer diagnosis. Your life becomes divided into before and after cancer. I chose to fight my cancer with Western treatments, and I supported my body with acupuncture (and counseling). This worked well for me, but I support my clients in whatever their cancer journey is. Most of my cancer clients choose to treat it with Western medicine with the support of acupuncture. However, some choose only alternative therapy, and others prefer not to fight it at all. Acupuncture can be your ally regardless of the path that is right for you.

Acupuncture can help alleviate chemo and radiation side effects such as dry mouth, hot flashes, insomnia, nausea & vomiting, pain, low white blood cell count (leukopenia), peripheral neuropathy, fatigue, hair loss, and the emotional impacts of having a life-threatening illness.

Finally, Relief from Painful Neuropathy

“I first came to Cindy a year after undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. My feet constantly hurt and were numb. I was skeptical, but nothing else had worked and I’d heard from a friend about acupuncture for neuropathy. It took about 6 weekly sessions but each visit the line where the numbness started was noticably lower! Now I have no pain and only a little numbness if I let myself get really fatigued.”   D.R.
