Acupuncture for Fertility

Clients seek me out for fertility acupuncture for a variety of reasons, from simple pregnancy prep to having a Western diagnosis that might make getting pregnant a little more challenging, to looking for support while going through IVF.

I often recommend twice weekly acupuncture during days 1 through 10-12 (depending on when you ovulate) and then once a week the following two weeks while we wait to find out the success of that “trying” phase.

If you’ve had several miscarriages, are anemic (or borderline anemic) or if your cycles are very irregular, I may suggest that you not actively try to conceive for 1-3 months while we get your body in balance.

Acupuncture can help with all these scenarios and anything in between:

Reduce stress – which in itself can impede getting pregnant!

Increase blood flow improving the menses and help make for a healthier uterus and ovaries.

Move Qi and blood again improving the menses and helping with movement of the egg and sperm for fertilization.

Improve hormonal production (by releasing neurotransmitters and endorphins.

Normalize insulin sensitivity and help normalize reproductive hormones.

Prevent miscarriage by ensuring healthy blood flow to the uterus.

Optimize ovulation and implantation.

Reduce fibroids (which can impede pregnancy).

Keep in mind – sometimes the issues lay with the guy’s health (sorry guys) so keeping an eye on stress, blood flow and overall health for the man is also important. Acupuncture can help men who have been diagnosed with low sperm count, poor motility (poor swimmers), and poor morphology (malformed sperm).
