Headaches & Migraine

Headache and Migraine are only lumped together here because they both are a pain in the head. However, migraine headaches are much more severe – they can be like a headache on steroids. They can be debilitating; they can cause vomiting, intense excruciating pain, strange visions, light/sound/smell sensitivity, even the inability to speak, or stroke-like symptoms.

 

However – as debilitating as they are, there is good news! They are very treatable with acupuncture and Chinese herbs. The first step is to do a comprehensive intake to determine the root cause of the headache or Migraine – are we looking at simple Qi stagnation (tight muscles of the neck and/or scalp causing the pain), or is something more complex like Liver Yang Rising (you’ll probably be irritable and might have high blood pressure with this type), or perhaps it’s due to Blood deficiency (might be accompanied by dizziness and ringing in the ears).

 

Typically, I see substantial, if not complete, relief from migraines with only a couple sessions of acupuncture!
