Gua Sha + Tui Na (Chinese Medical Massage)
Gua Sha and Tui Na are part of many acupuncture sessions in our practice. It’s typically done with the chief complaint of pain, soreness, stiffness, or tight muscles.
Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a natural, alternative therapy that involves rubbing your skin with a jade or rose quartz tool to improve circulation and relax muscles. I generally use Gua Sha on the back, neck, and legs.
I also incorporate a Gua Sha facial into my cosmetic acupuncture sessions! As a natural healing remedy, Gua Sha is safe. It isn’t painful, but depending on the body area we are working on and what we’re trying to achieve, you may see some temporary skin reddening.
Tui Na
Tui Na is a form of massage that has been used in China for more than 5,000 years.
It entails the use of rhythmic compression techniques along different meridians (energy pathways) of the body to establish a healthy flow of qi (energy) throughout the body. By applying pressure to acupuncture points and muscle groups it removes blockages and works deeply with the positive energy of the body.
